Review Publication

New review publication of Kay-U. Hanusch and Clemens Janssen "The impact of whole body hyperthermia interventions on mood and depression – are we ready for recommendations for clinical application?" in the International Journal of Hyperthermia.

A total of 7 studies and 148 subjects were included in this meta-analysis.
The publication is OPEN ACCESS: https://tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/02656736.2019.1612103

The authors conclude: “WBH is a promising alternative treatment for depression with low risk for adverse reactions and side effects but still lacking sufficient evidence for general recommendations for clinical practice. However, as all other interventions have failed, the studies to date can provide a framework for clinical application.”

It is most welcome that the clinical trials GKH-D at Psychiatry Charite as well as HYPE1 and HYPE2 at University Duisburg-Essen are in progress to provide more evidence to support WBH as a treatment option and other ones, also in USA, are in planning.
